We provide Metal Microelectrodes for a wide range of extracellular recording and stimulating applications. We provide multiple configurations for maximum customization. We will build electrodes to your specifications: material selection, tip shape, impedance, and insulation.
Standard metal monopolar microelectrodes are available in Tungsten, Stainless Steel, and Platinum in thicknesses of 75-100μm (.003"-.020").
- Tungsten- the strongest of the three, facilitates sharp etching, maintains exceptional tip integrity during insertion, and is available with glass insulation;
- Stainless Steel- affordable, strong, and allows a researcher to make iron deposits on tissue;
- Platinum Iridium- this option has a higher activation level, which causes it to deteriorate slower under current. Platinum iririum is less toxic in chronic applications.
We offer custom tip profiles, shank modifications, termination, and insulation options.

Metal microelectrodes are specified using a configuration of twelve alphanumeric (letters and/or numbers) characters. "UE" denotes metal microelectrode, followed by ten specifiers ("1-0").
