STar™ Drive
Catalog Number: STar Drive
FHC’s STar™ (Surgical Targeting) Drive System is the next generation of the popular micro-Targeting™ Drive for precise neurosurgical positioning, and is available in both Motor/Encoder (M/E) and Manual (MA) versions. Smoothly advance probes, recording or stimulation microelectrodes, leads or lesion electrodes through long metal bushings for optimal targeting.
The STar™ Drives are compatible with leading industry stereotactic systems through frame adapters secured with a new positive locking clamp. An expanding Radionics CRW Adapter conforms to any frame tolerance for tight connections. Five electrode positions include a central track aligned with the stereotactic Z axis and 4 parallel tracks offset by 2mm (on center) from the center track. When used with the center and offset positioners, the STar™ Drives offers up to 49 targeting options without stereotactic repositioning. A Lead Holder is provided to position lesion or stimulating electrodes after microelectrode recording without removing the drive.
Two Insertion Tube Sets are available:
1) The Single Electrode Insertion Tube Set allows the same outer guide tube to remain in place from recording through lead placement. Select any one of 5 tracks, and reposition only if another track is desired. A spacer tube assures alignment of the thinner recording electrode and is removed prior to positioning the stimulating or lesion electrode.
2) The STar™ Array Electrode Insertion Tube Set is designed to minimize the insertion tube/electrode volume. A simplified 2-tube insertion set channels precise targeting through fewer parts. An insertion guide tube and electrode insertion tube/stylet are inserted into the STar™ Array Locking Carrier which secures each tube individually. Tubes are easily lifted out using the new STar™ Array Insertion Tube Extractor.
The microelectrodes and tubes move together in this configuration. When a track is selected, the electrodes and tubes are removed and a Lead Insertion Tube/Stylet is then positioned in the same track.
The drives require minimal assembly and use available microTargeting™ electrodes with lengths calibrated to eliminate pre-operative measurements and reduce set-up time.
